Austrian Eco-Label for Green Meetings
Many people travel to congresses, business events, etc. regularly. These meetings do not only provide professional enrichment and social communication platforms of working life but also take up lots of resources, cause emissions and affect our environment. EANO is seeking certification according to the criteria of the Austrian Eco-label for Green Meetings for the 17th Meeting of the European Association of Neuro-Oncology taking place from September 15-18, 2022 at HOFBURG Vienna, Austria.
The Austrian Eco-label for "Green Meetings and Green Events" is awarded to events that are organised professionally and in an environmentally sound manner. It is a guarantee for low environmental impact of the awarded products and services, combined with high quality. The recognition of the Austrian Eco-label bestows a duty upon the EANO to lead by example and find new ways to improve the congress’ ecological credentials.
Supporting and allowing congress participants to use public transportation is one way in which EANO's footprint will be reduced. Vienna's great public transportation network makes it easy to get to and from the congress no matter where in the city attendees may be. The subway stations “Volkstheater” and “Herrengasse” are about 500 meters walking distance from the venue “HOFBURG Vienn”. Due to the fact that the venue is located in the centre of Vienna and the excellent public transport network, the congress participants can reach numerous sights of the city without any problems. Additionally, EANO recommenda all participants to look at options to offset their carbon footprint. These might be offered by the transportation company or you can also consider compensation via a service of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU): https://klimaneutralität.boku.ac.at/en/co2-kompensation/
Improving waste management and control processes is an important goal for any Green Congress. Reducing the amount of waste generated is just one aspect of this process, along with recycling. For this reason, the amount of printed materials at the congress have been reduced by making more materials, such as the congress programme, easily accessible online. For catering only reusable plates, drinking vessels and cutlery will be used. In addition, EANO works with environmentally conscious partners in the venue as well as at the networking events and accommodation.
All participants can support EANO's efforts for exmpale by using public transport to get to the venue and networking events and by using the existing possibilities for waste separation. Thank you!
